In the world today there six different learning theories
we could use from a teaching standpoint. The two that stood out to me are cognitivist
learning theory and experiential learning theory. Cognitivist learning theory found
out that behaviorism did not account for all types of learning. Cognitivist
means children need to explore, manipulate, question, and to search for answer
by themselves.
Experiential
leaning theory is a holistic perspective on learning that combines experiences,
perception, cognition and behavior. Experiential emphasize the central role of experience
in the learning process. This is a theory that can take place inside or outside,
this is while I feel this theory could be used well in physical education.
The reason
I choose cognitivist learning is because from a physical education view student
must be able to run, job, walk, etc which is asked of the teacher. Most P.E.
classes they have goals that must be met at the end of the year for class. I remember
when I was in school, we had to run a mile under ten minutes, pass a fitness
test, and explore different ways to make a better time.
The last theory I like was experiential learning. In
life we will always experiment things no matter if its good, bad, or indifferent.
I feel this theory works well along side cognitivist learning theory. In physical
education you have a process you must go thru to make your time and pass your fitness
test. From day one you will not know where kids stand on behave of they fitness
test.
